Te Kauwhata Arts Weekend
While we see many talented creatives each week at Toi Ako Artspace, we are aware that there are many more community members making work and enjoying creative practices in their homes, marae, churches and community groups. This weekend is designed to connect all our local creative communities, share and celebrate their collective creativity and provide opportunities for the public to engage with the art, the artists who make it, and their own inner creative selves.
An exhibition will be held in St Margaret's Hall, alongside workshops, demonstrations, performances and collaborative arts opportunities at the Toi Ako Artspace and the surrounding areas:
- Thursday 9 Oct - Pack In & Opening Night
- Friday 10 Oct - Schools and ECE day
- Saturday 11 Oct - Public Programme
- Sunday 12 Oct - Public Programme
- Monday - Pack Out

Call for Creatives - Get involved
We would love to hear from anyone in the creative community who would like to participate in the arts showcase weekend. You may be;
While we do have some limitations of time and space we will do our very best to involve as many of our local creative community as we can.
We are seeking:
Alongside the live exhibition we would also like to produce a digital exhibition and directory of local creatives.
There is no fee to be involved in the exhibition but final curation is at the discretion of the organising team. We will be aiming to showcase a range of artforms and represent as much diversity as possible within our creative communities.
If you would like us to try and sell your work we will take a 10% commission.
We will ask that exhibitors also take a shift volunteering over the weekend so we can ensure the artwork is well supervised at all times.

Initial expressions of interest close on 30 July.
By 31 August we also require all exhibitors and performers to have completed this Artist Application Form so we can produce the exhibition catalogue and finalise the exhibition programme and lay out.

- a craft / object artist
- a toi Maaori artist
- a poet, storyteller or writer
- a musician or singer
- a dancer
- a comedian or actor
- a professional or amateur
- an adult, rangatahi or child
- an individual, family or community group who wants to share their culture through creative practice

- exhibitors - people who have work that could be displayed. We can price your work to sell if you wish, or just display and return it to you.
- working artists - people who would like to work live or demonstrate their craft in front of the public over the weekend
- tutors - people who would like to teach a workshop
- musicians & performers - people or groups who would like to perform during one of our events or musical interludes
- poetry lovers - people who would like to read or recite their own work, or favourite poem at our Poetry Jam
- volunteers - people who would like to volunteer at an event over the weekend
- sponsors - businesses who would like to sponsor the event in cash or through the donation of goods or materials.
